A standard loaf is about 25 cm long and 11 cm square, and bread is happiest in paper: it lets the crust breathe instead of sweating in plastic. Loaves go in tall and narrow — an SOS or grease-resistant bakery bag stood on end — while boxed pastries and donuts must travel flat, which calls for a much wider bag. Anything buttery or glazed will mark plain kraft, so bakery bags are often ordered with a grease-resistant finish.
