What size paper bag do I need for a cake box?

No standard size — a custom bag of about 22 × 21 × 13 cm (width × gusset × height)
Cake boxes are square and must stay flat — a ½ kg cake usually comes in a box about 20 × 20 × 10 cm, a 1 kg cake in one around 25 × 25 × 12 cm. That square footprint is the problem: a standard carrier bag is wide but shallow, with a gusset of 10–17 cm, so it cannot take a 20 cm square box without tilting it. Bakeries either hand over cakes box-only, or use a wide-gusset cake bag made to the box size.

What to watch for
- Size the bag to the cake box, with 1–2 cm of clearance on each side so the box slides in level.
- A cake bag needs a gusset at least as deep as the box — that is what keeps the cake flat.
- Use a stiff base card or a heavier kraft for 1 kg cakes and above, so the bag does not sag in the middle.

Questions
Why won’t a normal paper bag fit a cake box?
Carrier bags are designed for tall, narrow loads. A cake box is square and must stay level, so it needs a bag whose depth (gusset) matches the box width.
