Size guide

What size paper bag do I need for a wine bottle?

Short answer · wine bottle (750 ml) as a gift

Square Bottom Twisted Handle Paper Bags, Bottle

12 × 9 × 38 cm · 4.5" × 3.5" × 15" · rated to 3 kg (estimated)

A standard 750 ml wine bottle is about 7.6 cm across and 30 cm tall, and weighs around 1.3 kg full. That height is what decides the bag: it has to clear the neck and still leave room for the handles, so a bottle bag is always tall and narrow. For more than one bottle, the base has to take the bottles side by side — and the weight adds up quickly, so load rating matters as much as size.

Typical item sizes used

  • Wine bottle (750 ml): 7.6 × 7.6 × 30 cm (3″ × 3″ × 11.8″), about 1.3 kg — Standard Bordeaux bottle, about 7.6 cm across and 30 cm tall.

What to watch for

  • Size for the tallest bottle you sell. Burgundy and Riesling bottles run 1–3 cm taller than a Bordeaux bottle.
  • For two or more bottles, twisted handles and 100 GSM or heavier kraft carry the weight more comfortably than flat handles.
  • Six bottles is roughly 8 kg. That is near the limit of a large carry bag, so wine shops often use a carton or a bag with a card base insert for six-packs.

    Questions

Can one bag hold two wine bottles safely?

Yes, if the base is wide enough for the bottles to stand side by side and the bag is rated for at least 3 kg. A dedicated single-bottle bag is too narrow for two.

    Do wine bags need dividers?

Not for everyday retail. Dividers or a card base help when bottles are carried a long way or given as gifts, where clinking and scuffed labels matter.
