Grocery bags are sized by weight as much as by volume. Five 1 kg packs of rice or flour fit easily in a large bag by size, but at 5 kg they use well over half of its load rating — so grocery bags are usually heavier kraft with a flat base and strong handles. Eggs are the opposite: light but fragile, and best carried flat in a wide bag. For supermarkets, a large square-bottom bag rated for 8–10 kg covers most baskets.
