An adult shoe box is typically about 33 × 20 × 12 cm and weighs about a kilo with the shoes inside; a boot box is closer to 36 × 30 × 13 cm and nearly twice as heavy. Because the box is rigid, the bag’s base (its width and gusset) has to take the box’s footprint — a bag cannot stretch around it the way it can around folded clothes. Most shoe stores stand the box on its end, which is why tall, narrow bags work.

What to watch for
- Stand the box on its long edge: a 20 × 12 cm footprint fits a far narrower bag than laying it flat.
- Two adult boxes side by side need an extra-large carrier — check it is rated for the combined weight.
- Boot boxes are wide and heavy. Beyond one boot box, a carton is usually more practical than a bag.

Do I need a special bag for shipping shoes?
A shoe box already protects the shoes, so for courier shipping it goes into a mailer or corrugated carton rather than a carry bag.
